As we celebrate Sister Theresa Elitz’s 80th birthday, founder of Amanecer Counseling and Resource Center, we reflect on her remarkable life and the wisdom she has shared. From her early career in business to answering a higher calling with the Order of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia, her path has been one of dedication and service.
Sister Theresa’s decision to transition from nursing to mental health therapy came after witnessing the need for culturally responsive care in Latino communities. Inspired by her work across North and Central America, she started Amanecer Counseling and Resource Center. What began with just a few donations in a shoebox is now a trusted provider of bilingual behavioral health services. At the heart of her work is the belief that healing begins with love, “Con Amor Sanamos”.
As we honor her legacy, we are reminded of the eight lessons that have guided her life. These lessons, shared in the infographic, continue to inspire our mission at Amanecer.
Help us honor Sister Theresa by contributing to our ongoing work—Donate to Fill the Shoebox and Support Our Mission!
